Christmas time with pets can be a lovely and enjoyable time! However there are a lot of dangers for pets around this time for example, foods, escaping and anxieties.

There are a lot of foods that are extremely toxic to pets, that come out around this time of year.

Christmas foods/plants poisonous to dogs:
Chocolate, peppermint, gingerbread, macadamia nuts, onions, garlic, mashed potatoes, grapes/raisins, Christmas pudding, mince pies, stuffing, cheese, poinsettia, holly, mistletoe and snowdrops.

Christmas foods/plants poisonous to cats:
Christmas pudding, mince pies, fruit cake, stuffing, onion gravy, chocolate, nuts, blue cheese, turkey bones, moldy foods, onions, nutmeg, holly, amaryllis, lilies, azaleas

It is so important to keep a number to an emergency veterinary practice to hand, make sure before the big day comes to find an emergency vet or contact your vets to see if they have an emergency line.

During this time many pets go missing due to doors being left open, it is important to ensure that people visiting are aware that you have pets. So that they know to close the doors behind them, and take care when opening doors.
